about our soy wax
soy candles

Benefits of our Pure Soy Wax Candles
Non Genetically Modified Materials

Our soy candles are environmentally friendly and are made from the finest ingredients available, and from soy wax that does not contain any Genetically Modified material.

If you are interested in seeing the test results showing our soy wax does not contain genetically modified materials or pesticides, please contact me.

Our candles are offered both unscented and scented with fragrance oils and pure essential oils.  Be aware that candles made in foreign countries may still have lead wicks, until their supplies run out.  See more below on wicks.

We infuse our candles with pure fragrance and essential oils, and use all cotton natural wicks.  Our soy wax is pure soy wax and not a blend of low-grade waxes or oils. Our paraffin waxes for the rustic pillars and paraffin container candles is a premium high grade paraffin vegetable blend that performs beautifully with fragrance oils, and colors gorgeously.

An amazing 11 year old says it well, watch the video about GMO's and Monsanto!
"11 YRS OLD EXPOSES MONSANTO AND TELLS MONSANTO WHERE THEY CAN SHOVE IT"

Our waxes are not manufactured by Cargill. We do not support powerful corporations like Archer Daniels Midland, Cargill, Dean Foods, Dow AgroSciences, Monsanto and Tyson who all share a major and largely overlooked role in fueling climate change. These giant multinationals have seized control over much of the planet's food resources, dominating the growing, processing and sales of oils, meat and grains. and this includes Cargill. Cargill candle waxes which are made from various oils, not just soybean oil. Their waxes are sold under the name "NatureWax by Elevance". We take health serious and we take our business just as serious.  Pure soy candles that have no genetically modified materials and no pesticides or herbicides are the candles I recommend to customers who love candles but have allergies or  other health concerns.  Like most, we love to burn candles and we do what we can to ensure they are as healthy and safe as possible, for us and for you.  If it is not healthy enough for me, then it is not for you.

If lighting a candle may pose a risk to your health from the burning, we suggest another form of scenting your home.

Precautions for Burning Candles

Some candles have design flaws that increase the risk of fire so we all need to be careful in selecting safer candles.  Candles in glass and pillar candles with the correct wicks are a wonderful selection. Others may contain materials that pose health hazards, especially for children.  It is not advisable to purchase candles that have fabric, wood, or flammable decorations on them or near the flame.

There are a number of precautions you can take to reduce health
and safety risks when you burn candles.

Some of the frequent mistakes NOT to make include:
dot leaving candles burning with no one in the room
dot burning candles close to materials that can catch fire
(e.g., curtains, party decorations, clothing)
dot leaving burning candles within the reach of children or pets
dot falling asleep or leaving the house with candles burning

Always, always follow the instructions printed on the label we have placed on the bottom of the candle!  Make sure to always trim the candle wicks to a height of 1/8 inch 'before lighting' the candle, and re-trim again every 2-3 hours, to prevent high flames.

Take extra care if you are burning candles with more than one wick, and avoid buying candles with multiple wicks that are too close together.  Extinguish all candles before you go to sleep or leave your house.

Our Candle Waxes

Our Pure Soy Wax
As mentioned, our soy wax has been tested and found to be free of Genetically Modified Materials and Pesticides (for a copy of the testing please contact me), and we do not add chemical additives other than fragrance and color. Our soy candle wax is not a blend, it is 100% pure soy wax and does not contain other waxes, oils or any animal by-products.

There is no such thing as an Organic Soy Candle.  It is not possible, due to the process necessary to turn soy into wax. Soy candles with organic ingredients, means they have probably added organic soy oil to their wax. It could be 1/2 ounce or even a drop, and it does nothing to make one soy candle superior to another soy candle.  The purpose is solely  to use the term "organic" in their web sites for higher search results, in Google and other search engines, using the term ORGANIC.  Read more here.

If you see the statements, Organic Candles or Organic Soy Candles, ask the selling company to provide you with their Organic Certification. Beeswax is the only candle wax that can be certified organic.

Our Premium Rustic Wax
For our rustic candles, jar and pillar, we use premium grade paraffin and a paraffin vegetable blended wax both offer very strong fragrance throw and a beautiful appearance.  Many have read reports of paraffin being a health hazard, and ask if paraffin waxes are more unhealthy compared to soy waxes? Anything that is lit and burned becomes more of a health risk than when not lit and burned. Paraffin waxes have been around for 100's of years and all candle fragrances were initially made for paraffin waxes, offering stronger fragrance throws. We keep unnecessary additives out of our waxes, and believe in keeping things simple. Why complicate things?

Our Candle Wicks

We use ALL cotton wicks, not zinc or tin.  Even though lead wicks have been banned in the US since 2003, some may still exist in other countries since supplies were plenty. Lead wicked candles are possibly still being imported to the US and other countries, due to the mass supplies back in 2003.  Lead wicks are unnecessary in candles.  The metal-core wicks many candle makers use today are typically zinc- or tin-core wicks. Reports have shown that zinc or tin-core wicks still may contain trace amounts of lead in the metal. Therefore we use only all cotton wicks, since we believe that the actual amount in 'trace amounts' is matter of opinion.

In CPSC tests, some candles emitted lead levels in excess of 2,200 micrograms per hour, five times the rate that could lead to elevated levels of lead in children. The government tests found that burning a candle with a lead wick four hours per day for 15 to 30 days could result in high lead levels in children's blood.

The materials used in and on candles can also pose health hazards. For example, some candles have decorations made of paper and ribbons, and some have outer layers made of tree bark, or other non-wax coatings. These materials can be very flammable and may increase the risk of fire or burns.

Our  Fragrances

Our fragrance oils are Phthalate free. Our candles are scented with the proper amount of fragrance to provide you with the safest candle possible and candles that smell amazing. Our fragrances and colors are specifically made for use for our candle line.

Excessive additives and oils (including fragrance) can be a hazard. Wax can hold only a certain amount of fragrance oil. We do not claim our candles are 'triple scented', which results in nothing more than a risk of fire and a waste of expensive fragrance oils and is more of a marketing play on words.

Animal Testing

We detest animals being subjected to testing in labs or anywhere for that matter.  We do not condone any form of animal testing. Therefore, none of our final products are ever tested on animals. While we cannot guarantee some of our skin care ingredients were not tested on animals at some point in time before we received it, we do our best to only use ingredients that have not been tested on animals.  Our products are tested on humans, never on animals.

Why we do not use "genetically modified" waxes or skin care ingredients in our product line

What is Genetically Modified Organisms -

Monsanto produces seeds which grow into plants genetically engineered to be tolerant to glyphosate -- which are known as Roundup Ready crops. Glyphosate (N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine) is a broad-spectrum systemic herbicide used to kill weeds, especially perennials, and is the most used herbicide in the USA. Monsanto developed and patented the glyphosate molecule in the 1970s, and marketed Roundup from 1973. Monsanto also produces seeds which grow into plants genetically engineered to be tolerant to glyphosate which are known as Roundup Ready crops.

As of 2007, 89% of U.S. soybean fields were planted with glyphosate resistant varieties.

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are one of the most dangerous and radical changes to our food supply, ever. Internal FDA documents made public from a lawsuit reveal that agency scientists warned that Genetically Modified foods might create toxins, allergies, nutritional problems, and new diseases that might be difficult to identify.

Many consumers in the US mistakenly believe that the FDA approves GM foods through rigorous, in-depth, long-term studies. In reality, the agency has absolutely no safety testing requirements. Instead the agency relies on research from companies like Monsanto, research that is meticulously designed to avoid finding problems.

Soy was the first Roundup Ready crop and was produced at Monsanto's Agracetus Campus located in Middleton, Wisconsin. Roundup is used in conjunction with Monsanto's 'Roundup Ready seeds'.

Genetically Modified seeds are causing an epidemic of herbicide-resistant weeds (such as the Pig Weed, see the below video from ABC News), thereby encouraging the use of more toxic pesticides, including those banned in some European countries.

In an unpublished study, laboratory rats fed a GM crop developed stomach lesions and seven of the forty died within two weeks. The crop was approved without further tests. There are no adequate tests to verify that GM food will not create dangerous allergic reactions.

The major transgenic plants in the market include corn, soybeans, canola (rapeseed), and cottonseed. Other varieties in the market include potato, sugar beet, tomato, papaya, watermelon, zucchini, and squash. No commercialized wheat or rice varieties exist yet, but release of transgenic rice varieties in the US is forecasted for the foreseeable future.

Roundup commercial formulations were never submitted to testing by the United States Environmental Protection Agency‎  (EPA) [read more here].  Its main active ingredient, glyphosate, received EPA Toxicity Class of III for oral and inhalation exposure. Studies have shown that Roundup formulations and metabolic products cause the death of human embryonic, placental, and umbilical cells in vitro even at low concentrations.

To think that Monsanto would make claims that its spray-on glyphosate based herbicides, including Roundup, were safer than table salt and "practically non-toxic" to mammals, birds, and fish is unbelievable -- but true. In 1996 Monsanto was accused of false and misleading advertising of glyphosate products, prompting a law suit by the New York State attorney general.

On two occasions the United States Environmental Protection Agency has caught scientists deliberately falsifying test results at research laboratories hired by Monsanto to study glyphosate.

In one incident, the owner of the lab (Craven Labs) and three lab employees were indicted on 20 felony counts, the owner was sentenced to 5 years in prison and fined 50,000 dollars, the lab was fined 15.5 million dollars and ordered to pay 3.7 million in restitution. Craven laboratories performed studies for 262 pesticide companies, including Monsanto.

More and more doctors are already prescribing GM-free diets for many very good reasons, your health for one. Dr. Amy Dean, a Michigan internal medicine specialist, and board member of AAEM says, “I strongly recommend patients eat strictly non-genetically modified foods.” Ohio allergist Dr. John Boyles says “I use to test for soy allergies all the time, but now that soy is genetically engineered, it is so dangerous that I tell people never to eat it.”

Among the population, biologist David Schubert of the Salk Institute warns that “children are the most likely to be adversely effected by toxins and other dietary problems” related to GM foods. He says without adequate studies, the children become “the experimental animals.”

The experience of actual GM-fed experimental animals is scary. When GM soy was fed to female rats, most of their babies died within three weeks—compared to a 10% death rate among the control group fed natural soy.

The GM-fed babies were also smaller, and later had problems getting pregnant.
When male rats were fed GM soy, their testicles actually changed color—from the normal pink to dark blue.

Mice fed GM soy had altered young sperm.

Even the embryos of GM fed parent mice had significant changes in their DNA.

Mice fed GM corn in an Austrian government study had fewer babies, which were also smaller than normal.
